What’s the outline of each online course?
What are they about?
Our creative writing online courses are for creative writers who appreciate the structure and guidance provided by a course facilitated by a professional writer and teacher.
They are short online courses on a particular genre of creative writing taught over 6 weeks. They are interactive and include written feedback from the teacher and opportunities to interact with other creative writing students via forums. You learn about the principles of narrative writing and develop the necessary skills to imaginatively write a short narrative.
Although our online courses are based on the creative writing e-workbooks available on the website, you get much more, including access to a professional writer and teacher who will mentor you, provide feedback on writing activities and facilitate forum discussions.
Sometimes we also need a bit of encouragement to complete our writing. The structure of an online course provides that for you.
Unlike the creative writing e-workbooks, the age of the student is open.

Who are the for?
These online creative writing courses are for students who require more guidance from an expert teacher, want written feedback on their creative writing and see the value in interacting with other writers in their peer group in a safe and nurturing environment.
The proposed student age group is indicated on the information page about each course. This is a guide only. We understand that every student has levels of ability that are not always reflected in their year level.
You will have a course facilitator who will offer you personalised feedback. You may also be interested in online creative writing mentoring, which offers a more open ended approach to supporting creative writing. Click here for more information.
What’s the outline of each online course?
Each week is broken up into a module, which addresses one to two principles of narrative writing and includes:
-
information about the principles of narrative writing
-
creative writing activities
-
modelled responses
-
activities requiring writing from 2 minutes to 20 minutes long.
How are e-courses delivered?
The course is completely online. We use the Qwiller website to communicate ideas, provide relevant information and engaging creative writing activities and give you access to peer-related forums. We also use a mixture of video, web files and pdfs to deliver content.
Our online creative writing courses are completely self-directed. You may complete the course over the duration of the course (6 weeks) or quicker if preferred. We recommend 1 1/2 - 2 hours per week be spent on the course. You will have writing activities to complete each week.
When you begin the course, all the information and activities will be available for you to access on the website.
Forums for students enrolled in the course are available for students to communicate with other writers in the course.
